Philadelphia News Ecosystem

The Lenfest Institute supports local journalism that aims to catalyze a more transparent, connected, and equitable Philadelphia by linking residents to their neighbors, to news organizations, and to other information resources that allow them to flourish.

Every Voice, Every Vote

Every Voice, Every Vote is a coalition of Philadelphia community and media organizations committed to informing voters and ensuring their voices are central to the 2023 elections for mayor and city council.

More than 50 media and community partners have joined the coalition. Partners plan to host nearly 200 forums and community events serving communities across the city and produce journalism and voting guides in at least 13 languages.

Philadelphia Media Founders Exchange

The Philadelphia Media Founders Exchange is a community-grounded accelerator program supporting BIPOC media entrepreneurs through training, one-on-one coaching, and grantmaking.

The Philadelphia Media Founders Exchange focuses specifically on the urgent need and opportunity to support and advance more media entrepreneurs of color to ensure communities prosper and news businesses thrive and grow sustainably on their own terms.

The Lenfest Constellation News Leadership Initiative

The Constellation News Leadership Initiative provides career development support to mid-career media professionals of color.

The program is open to candidates who work in editorial, product, business, or technology at Philadelphia-area news media enterprises.

The Lenfest Next Generation Fund

The Lenfest Next Generation Fund supports professional development opportunities for Philadelphia-area journalists and students of color. The Fund provides opportunities for participants to upgrade equipment, participate in workshops or courses, attend national conferences, or take on otherwise unpaid internships.

Ecosystem Support Grants

The Lenfest Institute has awarded support to a number of organizations working to strengthen the local media ecosystem. These include the The Al Día Foundation, the Asian American Journalists Association Philadelphia Chapter, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Philadelphia Chapter, and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. With our partners, we also established the Philadelphia COVID-19 Community Information Fund to support 19 local news organizations during the pandemic.
