The Future of Work was an ambitious, yearlong collaborative Philadelphia Inquirer reporting project focused on the key challenges and opportunities Philadelphia faces as it attempts to create more family-sustaining jobs against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Key stories included:
- City program lights the way for diverse contractors to get work: Mayor Jim Kenney’s Rebuild Ready initiative helps minority and women-owned businesses get city contracts.
- Flexibility has emerged as central ingredient of the post-pandemic workplace: Flexibility has become a key requirement as employers and employees consider the post-pandemic workplace and return-to-work plans emerge.
- How to be irresistible in today’s job market: Check out the skills in high demand: Workers will now need lifelong learning, a new skills report said. The good news is that many classes are free, low cost and widely available.
