In addition to his frontline fundraising work at UC Berkeley Journalism, Steve Katz serves as a coach and consultant to nonprofit news executives and development leaders, combining his deep understanding of the media landscape with proven fundraising and leadership development capabilities to support organizations in creating long-term sustainability and impact.

With expertise in philanthropy and fundraising, organizational leadership, management, and strategy, Steve has built a reputation for his skills in building strong boards, successful fundraising, and effective strategic communication.

Steve has worked in the fields of community housing, theater, environmental advocacy, and since 2003, journalism, when he started at Mother Jones, eventually being named its publisher. He lives in the San Francisco Bay area with his wife Rachelle and a fish named Bob.
