Ruth Marie Canahuati

Ruth Marie Canahuati is a business and philanthropy leader based in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and the US, with more than three decades of experience bridging journalism, corporations, and social impact.

She most recently served as Fundraising and Journalism Philanthropy Lead at Grupo OPSA, one of Honduras’ leading independent media organizations, where she built mission-aligned revenue models and cultivated relationships with foundations and donors committed to democracy, education, and social development. During her tenure, she also served as Audience Director, COO, and CFO — giving her a precious, 360-degree understanding of the media industry.

Ruth holds a Graduate Certificate in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, an MBA from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Communications from Babson College.

Her commitment to community goes beyond her professional role. She is co-founder and board member of Fundación Obras Sociales Vicentinas (OSOVI), Vice Chair of Friends of Barnabas, and a Governance Committee Member of Habitat for Humanity Honduras.

Ruth divides her time between San Pedro Sula and Miami, a dual perspective that informs her mission: to connect NGOs, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and media outlets to build a journalism philanthropy ecosystem in Honduras and, eventually, across Central America.

She is a bilingual Spanish-English communicator and a passionate advocate for the idea that a healthy business sector and a healthy society are inseparable.
