Bridging barriers: How newsrooms and fundraising teams can collaborate to fund impactful journalism

A free session on Nov. 12 from the Lenfest News Philanthropy Network

October 1, 2024

Philanthropic interest in journalism is at an all-time high as new funders enter the space and more than $500 million in funding has been committed to local journalism through the Press Forward initiative. But in many news organizations there is a disconnect — and even distrust — between fundraising and newsroom staff over fears of funder influence and editorial independence. However, it doesn’t need to be that way. In news organizations around the United States, fundraisers and journalists/technologists are collaborating and building a culture of philanthropy that supports a shared mission of great journalism in service of the public good.

Join us and the MinnPost team on Tuesday, November 12 at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT for a free workshop. MinnPost Advancement Director Laura Lindsay, Membership Manager Alicia Pedersen, and Audience Editor Jazzmine Jackson will share case studies of how their nonprofit news organization has built a successful culture of philanthropy. We will then go through role-playing and idea-mapping exercises to identify how we can build a culture that bridges revenue/newsroom divides.
