Introducing the 2026 Philadelphia Creators Summit speakers

Join us for a full-day summit for news creators, newsrooms, and the future of local journalism

April 17, 2026

The Lenfest Institute for Journalism today announced the schedule and speaker lineup for the 2026 Philadelphia Creators Summit, a landmark full-day event bringing together 250 news creators, independent journalists, and local newsroom leaders to advance the future of sustainable, community-centered journalism. The summit takes place on Friday, April 24, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. at Quorum, located at 3675 Market Street in Philadelphia, and concludes with a networking happy hour reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free to attend.

The Lenfest Institute’s commitment to creator-newsroom partnerships

The summit is the culminating public event of the 2026 Philadelphia News Creators Network, a four-month incubator powered by a broader $1.5 million Lenfest Institute investment to strengthen collaboration between independent news creators and established local news organizations. The Network is a community of Philadelphia-based independent news creators and newsrooms building the next generation of local journalism.  The initiative pairs the cultural relevance and audience reach of independent creators with the editorial standards and institutional infrastructure of newsrooms. The Philadelphia News Creators Network is supported by The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and Comcast NBCUniversal.

Four teams of Philadelphia-based news organizations and creators received direct funding, along with mentorship, curriculum-based learning sprints, and access to the Lenfest Expert Network. The Philadelphia Creators Summit is where those teams bring their work into public view, showcasing what they built, what they learned, and what comes next.

“Whether seeking to expand audience reach or build on established trusted relationships, news content creators and newsrooms are increasingly finding new and innovative ways to collaborate to better inform local communities,” said Shawn Mooring, Lenfest Institute Head of Philadelphia Programs. “We are eager to learn more about and support the growth of those relationships.”

The Philadelphia Creators Summit is also the inaugural event of the News Creator Summit Series, a national initiative supported by The Lenfest Institute and the Google News Initiative that will explore how the creator-newsroom model can expand in communities across the country.

Meet the 2026 Philadelphia News Creators Network fellows

The summit opens with the public debut of work from four 2026 Philadelphia News Creators Network fellow teams, each of which spent four months building and testing a creator-newsroom collaboration rooted in their community:

  • Green Philly (Brou Quinn and Terrill Haigler) engaged younger Philadelphia audiences through relatable sustainability stories rooted in the city’s food scene and everyday waste management challenges.
  • Technical.ly (Stephanie Humphrey and Chelsea Cox) examined how artificial intelligence is reshaping work, governance, and daily life in Philadelphia.
  • Resolve Philly (Elaine Johnson and Alisha Miranda) distributed essential civic information through trusted community networks, including mothers and hospitality workers, ensuring critical news reaches people through channels where trust already exists.
  • Inti Media (Miguel Dalmau and Debora Reaves Charmelus) reached younger BIPOC audiences through social media and community-centered storytelling focused on civic participation, elections, and Afro Latine culture.

The 2026 Philadelphia Creators Summit features a full day of featured presentations, expert-led breakout sessions, a live panel, and a closing keynote from one of the most influential voices in the creator economy. The complete program is as follows:

The summit will be hosted by Mina “SayWhat” Llona, one of Philadelphia’s most recognized media personalities and a nationally award-winning broadcaster, journalist, and content creator. Currently on-air nationwide on SiriusXM’s The Heat and a lifestyle and entertainment reporter for The Philadelphia Tribune, Mina brings more than 15 years of broadcast experience across radio, television, and digital platforms. A Gracie Award winner, a 2024 inductee into Syracuse University’s WJPZ Radio Hall of Fame, and a longtime champion of Philadelphia culture and community, Mina SayWhat is a natural and powerful voice to anchor this gathering of creators and newsroom leaders.
